October, 2022
This has been such a rich month! Jewish Boston published my first article about my work, titled A Dance Practice Called Nourish: Memory, Inquiry, & Liberation. I’m so thankful to Grace Mi-He Lee for editing my writing, and pushing me forward with clarity. There’s nothing better than having someone who can succinctly streamline your ideas! It has been a joy to receive and behold Grace’s work.
I held a table at LexFarm’s Harvest Festival on a super windy Sunday morning. I enjoyed showing farm visitors framed photographs by Olivia Moon of Nourish sessions, and sample scores for making dance on the farm.
I went to the opening reception for New Formations exhibit at the deCordova Museum! Curator Haley Clouser invited me to talk about some of the artwork for the exhibit. The curation team then edited my words into recorded sound bites which accompany the exhibit via QR codes. The show features visual artwork centering dance, athleticism, and public gatherings for protests and spectacles - a very timely theme to examine as we slowly reemerge to more public living. I am so proud to be part of this exhibit, please go visit! It’s open through March, 2023.
I presented my first academic paper as part of a panel discussion at the Dance Studies Association Conference, via Zoom. Along with Celia Weiss Bambara and Kristen Smiarowski, moderated by Hannah Kosstrin, we spoke in Jewish Choreographers - Practices as Research into Social Activism. My paper delved deeper into my family history and how it relates to my choreographic choices. I’d like to thank Brian Lim and Laurel George for helping me practice my presentation!
I would have liked to attend the DSA conference in Vancouver, but I contracted Covid for the first time. I am recovering well (thanks, Paxlovid!), and thankfully did not transmit it to anyone else.
Here’s to more wonderful things coming along this fall.
