Non-Event premiered a video of BUZZ: improvisational duet for dance and saxophone with my work partner, Jorrit Dijkstra. It is available for viewing on Facebook Live , and on the Non-Event website starting Tuesday, June 9 at 7:30pm. Julie Mallozzi filmed us at the Dance Complex on March 10, 2020 - just days before we were all ordered to stay home. Though I am not one to present my work online when we’re not able to gather together, I believe this particular video is a poignant reminder of where we came from a few weeks ago before everything changed so abruptly. Jorrit and I were playing with touch, sound, impulse, and space - all in the moment; Julie was capturing those moments, at times joining in to create a trio with her camera perspective.

Monkeyhouse has graciously commissioned me to choreograph a collaborative evening of work with choreographer Kim Holman for a future concert, Against The Odds, which will be presented at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, dates TBA. We are challenged to recalibrate our creative process: How to make dances when we’re socially isolated? Monkeyhouse’s Karen Krolak and Nicole Harris have been so supportive in helping me to keep working artistically while under quarantine. We’ve been having Zoom meetings to reframe creative challenges and administrative development. I love Monkeyhouse!

Big thank you to the New England Foundation for the Arts for granting me New England Dance Fund dollars to attend Decolonizing Dance: Celebrating Bodies of Color, which was to be presented in May, 2020 by Teatro Palo Alto in San Antonio, Texas. Although the conference was cancelled, I’m allocating the funds towards furnishing my dance space at home.
